You could argue that's precisely the reason to do it. There may be some potential supporters there as opposed to people who already know about it and aren't interested. As you'll know many sports fans (other than RL fans) are prepared to travel long distances. Many Spanish football teams are more than 100 miles apart yet attract away fans in good numbers.
What do they lose by doing this?
