I never knew this existed until it was mentioned in the Broncos Cowboys game. I knew about the 8 point try, saw one a few years back in SL but knew nothing of the 3 point field goal.

A couple of years ago I was coaching an U16s side and an '8 pointer' was awarded against us for one of our players sliding in after the try was scored. Correct decision. Unfortunately the referee decided that an eight point try consisted of eight points for the try and another two for the conversion in front of the sticks! The 'ten pointer'! No amount of reasoning could persuade him he was wrong and we lost by two points.
