Sheffield are illustrating something not seen yet; the power of the bonus point.

They've only won once this season and have lost every other game, yet are sitting 8th, four points ahead of Batley, who have won once and drawn once.

They've got a massive SIX bonus points already this season.

What are people's thoughts?

Personally, I'm a bit worried that the win no longer seems so important.

i think 12 points is way too leniant. should be within 6 imo

We'd still have quite a few bonus points. We've lost 6 out of 7 and our for and against column is minus 19 (i think). We nearly lost in Toulouse too, it was 12-12 with 2 mins to go, they missed a drop goal attempt and we ran up the other end and scored. Crazy stuff.

How many did Dewsbury get in 2007? They were referred to as the masters of the bonus point that year.

With Sheffield picking the points up, If they can start winning even by small margins, they might really come in handy later in the season when it comes to Final League Poisition, Batley have been getting tonked and arent showing any signs of improvement

When the Bonus point system was first discussed I really liked the idea.
Now however i'm not too keen. Should be 2-1-0 straight league.

It's something I don't think SL fans will agree on, yet Championship fans seem to be used to it now and I quite like the something extra it gives the game.

Most fans will talk about the bonus point when theres about 10 minutes left and the scoreline is close. Widnes were 22-4 up at half time yesterday and Sheffield could have crumbled, I assume their plan was to work towards a bonus point and from there see if they can get the win (which they probably would have got if the game was 5 minutes longer!).

It allows the end of games to be more competitive, knowing that 1 or 2 more tries with a few minutes left gives you a reward makes the game more competitive for longer periods.

Fair call AJ. I can see the merits in it, especially if say we had like the old northern ford where imo there was a big spread between the lower clubs and the big clubs. In a league much more competitive like the championship I dont feel a team like Sheffield should be mid table having won one game or whatever it is. For me it devalues a the league.
