Re: Round 6: Newcastle Thunder : Sun Jun 06, 2021 6:26 pm
I felt that we were a little stop/start today. We never really got into our stride but had enough quality when it mattered to win the game and extend our unbeaten run. The first half was a little drab and the referee made the game quite frustrating for both sides. Some of the calls for tackling the player in the air were bizarre.

It was clear that the Bulls had been given some very clear instructions on how to begin the second half. Walker running the ball in was like watching Vagana and Anderson in the glory days. He punctured some holes in the Newcastle defence and got our attack rolling again. He also bagged himself a well deserved try. Goulding played well again this week and I hope that the Giants will let us hang on to him a little while longer.

The only negative was the injury to Brough.

Walker was class when he came on. Best forward on the pitch.

Anyone like the look of Thunder’s number 3? I thought he looked class at times and with more early ball could cause some damage. Good defence as well. Worth having a look at in my opinion

Thought Newcastle played well in the first half. They slowed things down and disrupted us and we couldn't put any pressure on them. Would love to have been a fly on the wall in the half time dressing room as we came out a different team. That first 10mins after halftime won us the game.

Thought Walker was outstanding. His fitness has improved and they couldn't hold him. Scurr too to a lesser extent. Thought Lilley was very good. His running game is much improved now he runs at the line and not across field. Doyle is looking great too.

Obviously the loss of Brough is a blow and it'll be interesting to see how Kear deals with it.
