Well that was a bit anticlimactic . What happens when he is qualified, are they happy for him to risk getting injured then?

The initial reports seemed to suggest he would be available by June.

He is joining the club from June/July.

John Kear is joining me on the show this afternoon to talk about the new signing of Elliot Kear and Bradford’s strongest start to a season since 2016.

Won't that be the same for any Part Time player?

I’m sure it will, although I guess some roles are easier to bring cover in for/work from home etc.

I am not familiar with the training for being a firefighter but it just seemed a bit odd that he is allowed to play rugby once qualified but not during the training period.

I expect training is one long programme and you need to be available for it all whereas once qualified he'll be working shifts.

Plus I would imagine several will start training at same time and they will want them all progressing at same pace, once they are qualified it’s harsh to stop people playing sport in their own time over a 30 year working career

The fire service is a limited time training scheme. They only take on at specific times. The training is very intense although I imagine a pro RL player would be fine.

I suppose the point is, with places limited, if he got injured and couldn’t continue the training, he might find himself having to wait another year or longer to get another chance to train and qualify

knowing our luck we'll be paying him some sort of wage from moment he signs until he's available to play in September, He'll then promptly retire from the game as soon as his training finishes.
