Shocked Batley Bulldogs coach Gary Thornton was today reeling from the news one of his star players is facing an RFL ban after allegedly failing a drugs test. The player is hooker George Flanagan, who joined Batley from Bradford Bulls in the off-season and scored a hat-trick of tries against Hunslet Hawks in the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Sunday, including the last-minute winner. Serious shame. The lad had loads of potential and I was originally disappointed to see him leave the Bulls, as I always thought he looked excellent in the academy.

Shame to see him waste it by doing something so stupid.

I wasn't aware so-called "recreational" drugs were performance-enhancing? Isn't it usually the opposite?
