Recent visit to Akbars The Cafe down Leeds Rd one afternoon whilst feeling peckish. Just had one dish : lamb shank in a sauce not tried before. Cant remember the name.
Akbars have always put on some "different" optional dishes. It was certainly different and delicious + excelent Naan.
Swish place and decent service but its expensive! £12.95 for my one dish.
Took wife and daughter to Aakash in Cleckheaton one satuday night a month ago and opted for the Buffet menu at £13.95. The reason for my choice was to give every one their own choice of eating
As buffets go it was pretty good with 10 starters and about the same mains, with half a dozen sweets.
It's convenient to get what you want , as much as you want and when you want, and the process is ambient with guests but there is a horrendous lack of individual ingredient taste in dishes that have been allowed to stew for even a short time.
They do have an a la carte menu which we haven't tried.
2 weeks ago, wife and I went early doors (6:30pm) at Aagrah, Thornbury. where the sevice and kitchen was up to speed.
Poppadums were complimentary with 4 dipping sauces/chutneys
Mixed starters for two :Lamb Kebabs, Lamb chops, tandoori chicken, fish and vegetable pakoras with a much more varied salad than usual.
A Thali of 4 small dishes : prawns, lamb, chicken & lentils in varying sauces
for me and a Chicken Madras for the wife. All most acceptable in quantity and freshness.
The bill was £25.75 which we found reasonable.
The service was interesting in that it was absolutely spot on to what I would expect from a top restaurant anywhere. Efficient and timely, neither arrogant nor subservient, intiuitive to the customer's ambience in finishing dishes.
Might be different of course in really busy times, I dont know.
