Re: Batley Away : Mon Aug 07, 2023 8:40 am
The main objective for yesterday (besides winning) was seeing a positive response from the squad. Regardless of who was playing and who was dropped we needed to the see the squad respond after the shower that was served up against Barrow. I feel that we got that in spades yesterday.

Wembley or no Wembley, Batley is a very tough place to go and get a result. We haven’t won there since 2019 and our record away from home has been very poor this year.

Personal stand outs were Lilley, Meyers, Scurr (player of the year so far) and Holmes. Lilley had his best game of the season. He orchestrated a lot of our attacking play and ordered the squad around the field well. He also worked well alongside Gaskell and Holmes.

Lilley had his best game in a Bradford shirt IMO. Everything he did seemed to come off. That hit he put on in the second half when the game was still in the balance where he forced an error was excellent and showed the enthusiasm that was missing on Monday. The rest of the side responded to that. It's almost as if positivity breeds itself a bit like how the negative play did the same versus Barrow.

Everyone seemed to come through ok apart from Segeyaro who hobbled off. He was walking a bit more freely at the end of the game and had an ice pack on the knee. Hope he's ok as he's massive plus off the bench.

What was up with James Brown at half time? He gave the ref a proper earful. I'm guessing it was to do with him allowing play on for Blackmore's first try after there was an altercation at the play the ball?

Hopefully Segeyaro is OK, not only is he a quality player but then we need to reshuffle the spine again. I'd imagine Jowitt may be ahead of Patton in terms of selection now as the reserves have been going great these last few weeks. Don't think it will do Patton any harm to spend a few weeks in the reserves and try earn his place back in the side.

Think it was to do with Holmes... from where I was Holmes tried to get up to play the ball and was being pulled down by the player under him. Holmes dropped and landed an elbow. Whether it was deliberate or the fault of the player holding on, who knows? Anyway it went against them and they spat their dummy out.

for the bulls, like GFS, Lilley bleeds RAB ... the Leeds cup game just proved it ... Lilley at 9 with segayrayarooo (that guy :) ) ... Gaskill 6 plus livewire half ... Holmes has to be FB and links really well ... of course i cant see our games just going on assumption (take my tupence worth a pinch of salt)

Firstly what a result. Went on Sunday very much expecting to get beat but praying for a better performance than Monday. Came away very much more hopeful for the rest of the season.

I was critical of Gaskell when we resigned him (off the back of the way he left first time around) but to be fair he has done well since coming in and it was nice to see a team that looked well balanced, disciplined and happy to be playing together.

I think our spine solution long term is there without the need to sign anyone. Personally I reckon we have 2-3 very good options...

Option 1 = FB - Jowett; SO - Gaskell; SH - Holmes; Hooker - Lilley/Segy
Option 2 = FB Holmes; SO - Gaskell; SH - Lawford; Hooker - Lilley/Segy
Option 3 = FB Holmes; SO - Gaskell; SH - Lilley; Hooker - Jowett/Segy

Patton shouldn't be seen anywhere near the first team in my opinion and someone else said it earlier... I might just have found our bad apple.

Remember once going to a conference and hearing a keynote by Stuart Lancaster who talked openly about getting rid of "energy sappers" from the dressing room. He never mentioned specific names, but said that no matter how talented anyone was, they had to have total commitment to the team rather than as an individual otherwise it had a negative impact on the team. Patton whilst talented no doubt offers very little to the team collective and needs to go.

Great win yesterday a really great team performance, I think playing uphill in the first half was a big advantage and we just put them to the sword in the second half. I was fed up of going there and not seeing a win.

This 100%. In work and in my dabblings at team sports this is spot on.

Hate to be a bore and it's already said above.
But remember when we signed Shaun Edwards in 97?
I was blown away, one of my fave RL players and probably the best 7 of his generation.
But came over to us and more or less single handedly destroyed the momentum from the year before.
That's what Patton has done since Arrival
A very talented player but if the rumours of his attitude are correct he will be lucky to get a gig at Keighley.

Edwards had a clash of personalities with the Penguin. Both wanted to be top dog and Penguin won.
