Platts like RL's David James/Titus Bramble; all the technical ability just doesn't have a anything upstairs! no rugby brain what so ever, struggles to concentrate. Its a real shame because he has some real talent but will never reach the the heights befitting.

A full back has to be able to defend as well as attack. At Cas he never looked safe under the high ball, and players just ran round him in defence. I was watching your highlights from yesterdays game and his positional defence when people broke through was cringeworthy.

But thats just my opinion.

Maybe we're playing him in the wrong position then. Breaking the line is a great asset but not the most important one for a FB.

You might be right but its still a good stat to have as a player no matter what position you play

As you say fullback might not be for him - I'm sure there are plenty who would agree

It's why Leeds play Webb.

But when Webb breaks the line he will get a bit of support.

Totally different scenario. Brent Webb is a proven World Class Full back. He's safe under the high ball, can read a game, is a solid defender. Add that to his attacking and supporting game and you have a very different player than to Michael Platt. Platt does break the line and when he does, he is good at it. You can't play him at FB on this alone though. The mans your last line of defence and the extra man that slots in when attacking....Or at least he should be.

He is average in defence at best, reasonable under the high ball. 25 missed tackles, 30 errors last season. Webb is definitely not Keith Mumby. Whether defence is the most important asset of a modern FB is open to debate.

I'd say Webb's defence isn't much of an issue because the 12 blokes in front of him can defend pretty well. Put him behind 12 blokes who can't defend and you'd find fans talking about it more often.

As Tigs says he's no Keith Mumby. How we could do with a man of his reliability now!
