He's British born and bred. Came through KR academy. He only went to OZ last year.

Great lad is Dave, didn't get a chance with HKR so went to Aus for 2 years and will be a better player im sure. Bulls got a good un there.

YouTube clips certainly shows some good signs. Winning attack collision more often than not and when defending he turns the attacker on his back at every opportunity. Seems to have very good technique for a 22 year old and looks a solid prospect if nothing else.

Could be a good find!

Don’t really understand the keenness to see Donno or Addy re-sign. Sure Donno’s got a decent defensive technique but he doesn’t do anything much in attack and lacks “mongrel” which we’ve been missing for a few years. We need an Elima/Karl Fairbank type player, especially in the championship who can make opposition players a bit more reluctant to mix it. We’re going to be the opposition they all want to beat so we need some toughness in the pack. I hope Peterson has some of this.

The reason some of us are wanting to keep the likes of Addy and Donno should be obvious to you.
Young, british, club trained and can play to a decent level. The club trained exemption is there for a reason and we need to take full advantage of it - not just next season but from here on out.
How is signing someone like Peterson on a one year deal going to help the club long term? We need to keep our academy prospects as a priority and 'adding mongrel' as you put it should come second.

I would hate for us to let a young academy player slip through our fingers and watch them develop into future international players at another club. See Atkins, Ferres, Wardle and others as examples....

I think also we are going to need a squad offering real competition for places, so Petersen is very welcome to me.

I think, as well, that we don't know the state of play in negotiations up and down the leagues involving our current squad. Addy and Donno may ultimately stay but they, and one or two others, are players who may well be under scrutiny from SL clubs who would be most likely to be able to offer a better deal. I'm sure there is much still going on behind the scenes and Jimmy probably thought it best to take the bird in the hand and see what happens?

While I agree with you in keeping the club trained players as a priority, the fact is we can't compete if clubs like Warington, Wigan, Hudds want to sign our academy products.

Also we need to sign players like Petersen. We have a very small squad even if every single one of our current squad signed up. Never mind with quite a few leaving. With a cap limit of £1million, Petersen is the exact player we need to sign. Young, British, plenty of potential and cheap.

If we want a 25 man squad next year (which is minimum we will need as it is going to be a long hard season) we can only pay each player on average £40k. That's the size of Jimmy and the boards task.

Ive seen a fair bit of him playing for the Mackay Cutters and he goes good, he is versatile in that he can play in the back row or hooker.

Re: New Signings/Re-Signings : Mon Aug 04, 2014 10:04 am
Jimmy will get the praise for signing this lad but I suspect that Ferres is playing a big part in recruitment as he probably has a deeper knowledge of lower league players than Jimmy or Robbie. He is a very shrewd operator. I expect to see a few more "unknown to us" get signed in the next few weeks. It will be Jimmy who can persuade the ones we have to stay with him.

I agree with above about us needing to build a squad for years not just next season. A hand full of promising youngsters with some seasoned pro's is the best way to go. Keeping our own is important but they must be good enough. If they leave and make it elsewhere then so be it. We hope these young lads we sign will be stars and then their previous teams supporters will say just the same as we do about some of our that left. It is swings and roundabouts. In an ideal world we keep all of our stars and sign everyone else's young stars - but that won't happen. Sometimes a player needs to leave to make that next step up that he wouldn't achieve with us for whatever reason.

KR are now looking for a new hooker. Let's hope they don't target AO'B.

You've signed a good one in Dave Petersen. We had him on loan from HKR for half a season at Workington before he went to Oz and he was a stand out at that level, equally at home at 6 or 13, with a bit of pace, a good step and a very good work rate in defence. I'd have been delighted to have him back at Town, he's one of those players that keeps going when others are dropping.
