The reason some of us are wanting to keep the likes of Addy and Donno should be obvious to you.
Young, british, club trained and can play to a decent level. The club trained exemption is there for a reason and we need to take full advantage of it - not just next season but from here on out.
How is signing someone like Peterson on a one year deal going to help the club long term? We need to keep our academy prospects as a priority and 'adding mongrel' as you put it should come second.
I would hate for us to let a young academy player slip through our fingers and watch them develop into future international players at another club. See Atkins, Ferres, Wardle and others as examples....
While I agree with you in keeping the club trained players as a priority, the fact is we can't compete if clubs like Warington, Wigan, Hudds want to sign our academy products.
Also we need to sign players like Petersen. We have a very small squad even if every single one of our current squad signed up. Never mind with quite a few leaving. With a cap limit of £1million, Petersen is the exact player we need to sign. Young, British, plenty of potential and cheap.
If we want a 25 man squad next year (which is minimum we will need as it is going to be a long hard season) we can only pay each player on average £40k. That's the size of Jimmy and the boards task.
