So Ferres says we'll be looking at largely the same squad next year a couple of weeks ago, and we already have 4 new signings (5 if you include Thomas). Welham should be good, gives us pace we haven't had, but where would you play Purtell now, surely not half back for good. If we have one other to come in I hope it's Ridyard as Leigh try to get Chase in under the cap, they looked a lot more dangerous with him organizing. Also, wonder what happened to the Lee Smith rumour, wonder if his signing was dependent on winning at Wakey

Agree on Walshaw, I thought he started the season well. Could you Blythe that list now, hard worker but not a lot of pace for centre or size for SR

Slightly off topic, my lad signed for Sheffield today. He was told a few week now that there is 7 back rowers in front of him at Leeds and he would be going on loan to Hunslet next season or he could leave if wanted to. He didn't want to go to Hunslet with them getting relegated so a new chapter and new challenge for him. He's still only 19 and he's hoping to get plenty of game time at loose forward, so 2 games for me next season I'm not looking forward to

Smith was another strange one for me, unless we're shifting quite a few players out I don't really see the need for him. Interesting that we seem to be getting all the announcements out early this time around.

With Neilsen, Purtell and Welham being 30, 30 & 28, I don't think having all 3 is a bad idea. I imagine they're getting to the point now where even a more minor injury/knock may take that bit longer to work off than it would in their early 20's. It's good to know that if one of them does pick something up, or Purtell needs to drop into the halves at short notice, We've got a good, dedicated replacement in the wings rather than a 2nd Row with a bit more pace than usual.

Well, if we're getting Smith in then I'd imagine that would mean Mullaney moving to 7. That's assuming Smith is willing to drop down to championship level
