It says AC is 'Selling' his shares to the new consortium. Surely they can't be worth the paper they're printed on. What assets are there to sell apart from the brand and that's been completely tarnished. The club don't own anything apart from full time contracts that they can't afford to pay as far as I can see. As has been previously said, nobody is going to pay any money to take on somebody elses debt. Nobody was remotely interested last time until they knew they wouldn't have to pay the previous regimes debt after liquidation. Then, it seems, the RFL had to approach AC to take over.
There's the old saying that the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over and excpecting a different outcome. Every single new owner since the first Admin has done exactly the same as the previous one and the results have been the same. The only difference this time is no Odsal millstone but, as the RFL have only given a 12 month approval, then this is only temporary. We must have the biggest income from people paying to watch than any club in the championship, apart from Toronto maybe, yet we're still skint. Sheffield probably received about a 10th of what we did from gate money yet still manage to stay solvent with a similar standard squad. It seems obvious to me that the only way of being sustainable in this league is with a part time squad unless you have an owner with deep pockets and an undying love for their club. Unless one of our supporters wins euromillions, then i don't see how any consortium can stop us from racking up more debts unless they cut costs to an absolute minimum and that means going part time like Widnes have had to.
The only club likely to be able to afford any full time players next year is London with their parachute payment and wealthy backer. It's not hard to see why Roger is so upset as Elliot gave up his day job to go full time this season and now he's likeley to have to find another club if he wants a full time future in the game.
We'll just have to see how it plays out but i"m not getting my hopes up.
