Players' performances have been done to death on here, but even though he's been fairly average over the year, I'd keep Gale. His 'sudden' resurgence has come about on the back of better go forward from the pack, something he's not had the pleasure of since the pre-season friendlies. Let's hope...
Not sure it's to do with go forward in the pack. Against Leeds we still struggled to make a lot of ground. The difference was when Leeds started their sets inside our half, we were hell bent on defending our line. Whereas under Cummins, we were guaranteed to crumble.
I've always said the "Gale is behind a beaten pack" was an excuse. We didn't have anymore possession than other games IMO the difference was we defended well, and Gale kicked superbly. He also actually ORGANISED the attack and looked like he knew what he was going to do with the ball. He was like a different player
Also great game management from Jimmy. Olbison missed two tackles in a row for Leeds first try. Under Cummins, he would have been kept out there and Leeds would have scored a few more tries (for some reason Cummins always gave our back rowers huge spells, which might explain the high missed tackle count.) jimmy brought him off and brought on a fresh Ferguson. The very next set Leeds attacked out right hand side again and Ferguson put on a monster hit on the Leeds player dislodging the ball. I feel a tiring Olbison would have missed it. Jimmy is proactive, not reactive as with Cummins (who usually brought off the culpable player when we were 20 points down)
