Is Platt Really that bad : Thu Mar 05, 2009 12:53 pm
Just a quick one i notice that for the past 2 seasons Platt has been made the scapegoat for losses etc.
As the saying goes 1 player doesnt make a team whether its making the team better or worse.
When i have seen platt play he seems quick strong and dangerous, i know he has mad brain explosions but many players do.
The point is that your team are struggling as a whole and not just one player, your half backs are the weakest i have seen in years for the bulls your hooker is too slow and has worse brain explosions than platt in my opinion.
You just havent signed any good players in the off season.

He's probably not THAT bad but he's certainly failed to live up to his early form at Bradford when he was breaking the line with ease and scoring tries for fun. Without these antics his defensive blunders are less, erm, defensible

I'm sure many on here will dispute whether the players signed are good or not, Menzies and Scruton certainly aren't bad.

Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

There's plenty of other topics on this board covering all your above points, do we really need another one ?

i know menzies is good but is it worth all that money for a one season wonder when you could of got another top player younger on a contract for 3-4 years for the same amount as your probably paying him for 1

Whilst I agree we should have strenghtened others areas of the team, preferably with young talented players, fact is the right players were not available for the right price at the right time. But you cant make the sweeping statement that we signed no good players when we aquired two grand final winners in Scruton and Menzies and filled in some other spots with players who have the potentail to improve whilst already being SL standard in Sheriffe and Worrency.

But as to one of your original points, no I dont believe Platt is as bad as some make out, but he has not pushed on like I would have hoped as yet.

Who?

Steve Snitch? Rob Parker?

I'll stick with Menzies I think.

Alot of people miss the point with Menzies.

He was not just brought here to play. It was also to pass on his vast knowledge of the game and try and improve the younger players in the first team & coming through the ranks.

I also do not believe that it was said what he was earning either. People again assume he is on a fortune.

Having watched him in the 2 games so far I would give him another years contract right now.

As for Platt. He is sometimes the scapegoat but he is not helping him self.

He seem to have lost all confidence now. He seems nervous of catching the ball, prefers to offload to the wingers rather than than be brave and take it back himself and has lost the ability to tackle.

We've apparently got a great crop of backrowers coming through in the academy like Whitehead, Olbison, Tate and Donaldson. We'll hopefully see some of these come through in the next couple of seasons. Menzies can pass on his knowledge and good habits to them so we don't need to bring anymore in for that area.

Care to share the details of Beaver's contract with us? And the details of those of other "top" players?

Its always a bit of a misconception though, because its the good British players who've tended to cost more, for equivalent ability, because of their relative scarcity as well as for tax and other reasons.
