Ah, but
that wasn't the worst bit.
The worst bit was that, in that very week, an edict had been publicized by the referees reminding players/clubs that before a penalty could be taken, all players must be onside, and that if they were not, their team would in turn be penalized.
Yet in this case, 2 Saints players were many yards offside, yet Smith ignored the ruling and let play go on.
