If Southernwood stays beyond his current deal he will class as home grown as I believe you have to spend 3 years at the club before you turn 21?
Correct, but I would assume as it stands right now, he's not Home Grown, as he's only been here half a year. If he does stay 3 years though, he will count as home grown then.
Although that may be completely wrong as the rules are that bloody confusing.....

It is bloody confusing, but Cain Southenwood can be classed as "home grown" if we wish. I think one of the confusions is the term "home grown". In the operational rules regarding the quota the phrase "home grown" is not used;
a Club’s First Team Squad, where that Club is in Super League, must consist of:
(a) a maximum of 5 players who satisfy none of the definitions of Club Trained, Federation Trained or are working towards either classification. (b) a minimum of 8 Club Trained Players or Academy Juniors working towards that classification. (c) the remainder being made up of Club Trained, Federation Trained Players or Academy Juniors working towards either classification.
a) is "quota" b) is the "home grown" clause, where you need 8, c) is everyone else. The bit in bold in b) clearly states that any player under 21 working towards club trained status counts as one of the 8, so Southenwood could count as one of our 8 if we wanted him to as he is in the 1st team squad, under 21 and working towards club trained status.
.....but I might be wrong of course, if Cain can't get 3 full seasons in before he's ineligible for the under 21's can he be classed as working towards something he can never get??? I give up.
That document really wouldn't win an award for clear english though, its no wonder everyone is confused and loop holes are found.

Yep, based on that wording, I'd agree with that. It's the "working towards" bit that suggests he does count as Home Grown.
They really don't like leaving things black and white at Red Hall do they?
Nope, my only worry would be if he can't get 3 full seasons in before he's ineligible for the 21's, and therefore can't ever be club trained, can he still be working towards it before hand??? It might depend on when he becomes ineligible for the under 21's....like I say, confusing, and I give up.

Common sense would say if your contract runs for 3 years or more, then you're working towards it (as seeing out that contract would qualify). If your contract is shorter than that, you're not working towards it until you sign a contract that would cover the 3 year period.
But we all know that common sense doesn't necessarily play a part!
thanks for feedback about players Id missed (ive been busy - new baby and all that!)
Squad list amended again and should be ok for now, will add Briggs when lenght of contact, etc. is confirmed.
If anyone can link me to anything (press release or new signing/release info) about players out of contract in 2010 who are still on list would they mind?
