Cunningham's Excuse this week : Sat May 09, 2015 6:01 pm
What will it be this week?

Heat
'We beat ourselves'
My middles were awful.
My edges were awful.
'If I comment on the referee I'll get fined.'

Or have I missed any other potential cliches?

Awful. He's taking us backwards. And before anyone jumps on me for making him a scapegoat I said when he was appointed it wouldn't work.

TBF as a neutral you kind of did beat yourselves.

Penalties for high shots and offside. Early on in the game you had a scrum in their half and knock on from the first tackle. Another penalty and you go to kick to touch and fail to reach the sideline.

Some basic and sloppy errors really set you back. Sort out the easily fixable issues above and you'd have won, fairly easily probably.

James Childs & the Linesman both did their level best to get the win for Saints.

Re: Cunningham's Excuse this week : Sat May 09, 2015 6:19 pm
Pretty shocking today, just no life in them at all. Catalans are absolutely woeful defensively if you apply pressure and move them about a bit and we didn't exploit it at all.

We did the basics wrong today. Firstly, the pack were awful. All of them. Richards needs a rest or a while to re focus and they need to use Mose more. We were dominated today up the middle. Secondly the tackling. I'm sick to death of seeing so many missed tackles from us. Our defense was the reason we won SL last season, we were as tight as a drum towards the end of last season but KC has undone that already. We're a mess, there were several times today where we had three or four missed tackles in the same play. I'd bet we're well over 40 again.

KC is slowly destroying us, it seems his gameplan is early 2000's Bradford. One out mind numbingly boring rugby. Whenever we moved the ball wide today Catalans fell apart. They can't shift, they can't number up and they can't deal with any sort of pressure or movement. Yet we insisted on going one out all the time and thoroughly deserved to lose today.

One thing that was worse than our performance though was the referee's. He is simply shocking and Saints should formally complain about him. He changes games with his incompetent decision making, he did it so many times today we ended up with the right result as his game changing mistakes kept cancelling each other out. I wonder if he has problems with his eye sight or whether he's just incompetent. Either way there were several horrendous mistakes from him again, for both sides. The players have no respect for him or his decisions, hence the five or six back chatting penalties he gave. We were offisde a lot and penalised a lot, they were the same in defense and weren't penalised. He ignores forward passes and doesn't seem to understand what should be a penalty when it comes to the play the ball.

We lost by six points at a venue which has ALWAYS been a tough place to go. Admittedly we made some mistakes - and I don't agree with Cunningham's decision to play longer and lighter in the pack (if he wanted youth he should have used Savelio for the duration - at least he has the mass), but it was the INDIVIDUAL ERRORS which cost us the game.

Also, it's noticeable our scoring threat is significantly diminished now that Saints boo boy, Turner, is injured.

Do you like the way he's making us play? Defensively we're making more missed tackles in 20 minutes than we made in entire games at the back end of last season. In attack we've got the players and the skill levels to be expansive, get some momentum with the pack and then exploit it out wide. But no, we're all down the middle, playing some desperately conservative rugby at times. I just don't see the style of rugby he's got us playing being successful. The rest of the big sides are going the other way, playing more expansively and we are regressing to playing wet weather rugby in the sunshine.

Wasting your time there mate, he got a book on excuses. In his mind we are the best team in RL.

By the way, I agree with you on Richards and posted it in the game thread. He needs taking out. He's struggling and making to many mistakes as a result. That's why Imo we need two props next year as we have Richards, Sav and Thompson who are very very young in terms of props and can be inconsistent. All three have not been as good this year as I expected. They have had there moments but they ain't reguler enough due to their age.
