A bit of perspective. : Sat Apr 12, 2014 6:44 am
There's as many negative comments on the match thread last night as positive ones. Understandable given the start we made last night but I think there are certain people who almost enjoy seeing us lose so they can stick the boot in. If you'd told me after 9 games that:
We'd be 100% and still in the cup
We'd discovered our overseas half back signing was up to the job
We'd been through an injury crisis and survived it due to the quality of our youth systems
We'd rediscovered the knack of winning tight games that we so badly lost under Simmons/Potter
We'd made an incredible signing in Amor
We'd seen the emergence of Walmesley as arguably the best prop in super League
We'd watched Makinson and Swift turn their level of performance up a good few notches

I'm sure we'd all have taken it! Constructive criticism is fine. Moaning at the coach and players for a bad 40 minutes of rugby, team selection and tinkering (when we don't even know the reasons for selections/non selection) and picking on individual players for a couple of mistakes is embarrassing. We're not going to perform at 100% every week. That's sport. We've laid the foundations for a great season as it stands and we have reason to be very optimistic.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

Re: A bit of perspective. : Sat Apr 12, 2014 7:18 am
A better perspective would be if we played well for the full 80 mins, eventually some team is going to be on the receiving end of a 70 point battering.
At the moment strength of character is winning us games that last season we would have lost.
Brown and Cunningham are doing a great job, I don't think they are tinkering with selections we are just a bit patched up with injuries at the moment and adapting to the instability of the 17 selected.

It’s not just strength of character to be honest is it? Saints are getting a tad more than their fair share of the 50-50s at the minute, and I’m by no means trying to say that they are not justified in being at the top of the tree just now, I’m just saying you don’t seem to be taking into account some of the good fortune decision wise as well as the great play. I hope you’re just as accepting when the bad decisions start to come along and cost you points, as these things usually even themselves out over the length of a season.

But this is a load of rubbish though, neutral supporters only see what they want to see and add the factor that every non saints supporter wants to see saints lose a game, so they only pick up on saints fortunes. Its part of the game which balances out this season.
We,ve had loads of decisions go against, we've had loads of one on one ball steals this season nearly everyone has been penalised, we,ve had lots of tries scored against us with forward passes, genuine tries disallowed etc.
We also factor in that Saints are "box office" at the moment and probably been televised the most, so there is examination on every play, decision etc.............its just that people as mentioned only see what they want to see.

I don’t disagree with much of what you say, but the same sort of things would be said by many fans from other clubs not just Saints, and I’m not just trying to cause agro, though I know you don’t believe that, but I do think the bottom line of your post does seems to apply to you too!

Firstly I've got to correct 1 little error , a Goon fan making comment on Saints is never a neutral.

Apart from that your spot on, we have had plenty calls go against us, for starters Walmsley had the ball ripped at least twice (given as knockons) and we were pulled up for 1 steal (might have been on Carney) that he clearly just dropped. Carney's pass to Shenton after that great catch looked a bit sus to me too (sky were too busy jizzing themselves to notice it - they did however show about 100 replays of the alleged knock on by Turner even after the game). I dont see many people from other teams moaning that Swift was clearly not in touch when given out by the normally redundant touch judge either.

I think Thaler called the Swift one as a forward pass, not in touch, as you can hear in the background.

That was another call and ironically it didnt look much different to Shenton's score from Carney ..

Even if what you say about what was missed was fact, two wrongs don’t make a right, or change the minds of the unbiased, and you will say that I am bias, and you’d be right, but it doesn’t change the fact that what was missed affected the outcome of the match. We will never know whether or not the things you said happened and weren’t acted upon would have or not. Anyway Saints won the great game and that’s what’s in the chip papers so it’s end of!
