2014 Cotton Home Shirt : Sat Dec 21, 2013 10:35 am  

I was really pleased to see this appear on the club website but I have to say now I've seen it in the flesh I'm underwhelmed. I was expecting something of the weight of a proper cotton rugby shirt but it's nowhere near that, it's actually lighter than most polo shirts I've seen. Given how well made the sky blue and chocolate shirt was made I was hoping for something like that but it's not in the same league.

It says that its cut and sewn, and it is, but the 2 white lines on the red vee are actually ironed on (unlike that Comodo shirt from a few years back), as are all the bigger logos, and the label says no tumble drying so they're obviously not convinced it'll all stay on.

So anyway, it looks nice but it certainly doesn't feel like good quality or built to last, more like £25-£30 than £50. Pity really.

The shirts are lighter in weight now. That's how they are made but not sure if that would effect the quality

It just feels cheap, and at £50 it isn't.

All the replica shirts around late 90's early 00's were really poor quality (I have most of them) with either printed or ironed on logos. People got fed up with it and made a fuss and the club responded really well and the shirts from the mid 00's have been much better quality and the price was kept down so they felt well worth what you were paying. Hopefully this isn't a sign that we're going back to rubbish quality at premium prices again.

Shame there's no equivalent to the chocolate-and-blue shirt of a few years back. One of my favourites, and still worn frequently. A quality item. I'd certainly buy an equivalent, now I'm a bit old for wandering round in replicas.
