Saints Heritage Day Sunday September 9th : Wed Aug 29, 2012 12:48 pm
2012 marks the 80th anniversary of Saints' first league championship victory in 1932 and this momentous occasion will be celebrated in the impressive surroundings of Langtree Park, the club's state of the art new home. Club historian Alex Service and other members of the Saints Heritage Society will deliver a substantial presentation based around the illustrious 1932 championship winning side and there will also be the opportunity to see two original trophies from that time which are rarely on public view.
The first part of the event will be a unique reading of Saints and rugby league-related poetry from Dave Dooley, who has recently launched his book Saints Verses. (Available from Saints Shop and Wardleworths). The middle section will be centred around the Boys of 1932. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the club's first-ever Championship success. It was also a 'double' celebration with the Lancashire League title too. Saints' Historian Alex Service will tell the story of the season, the players and what happened to them. Both original trophies will be available for photographs. Finally, the session will end with a special performance from the Sing Along A Saints, who have recently appeared on the pitch at Langtree Park. Admission is free but you will need to book your place by visiting www.saintssuperstore.com/tickets |
