A mate in work (Wire fan) is telling me how impressive he was in the Academy match against Warrington recently, saying him and Ashe (Playing stand off?) were the difference between the sides. Gaskell also got a rave review in the Warrington Guardian match report and also received the Man of the Match award. It's interesting that they played Lee there, given Ashe was also playing.

Did anyone watch the game and can report on how he did? Thinking about it, he could be a good fit for fullback, David Peachey-esque. I like the thought of him chiming into the line from deep a lot and we could no doubt use his kicking game on the last tackle as well.

I watched the game. Gaskell contrary to some reports of a bad attitude after the transfer request saga is working really hard & is developing even without alot of first team rugby. Lee didnt really have any kicking responsibilities, Ashe & Speakmen took that role. Ashe was aweful at six put to shocking grubbers in second half that led to the only two forages into our half for Wire second half. Gaskell is very quick over 10-20m & injected himself into the line very well & at the right times & his game awareness/intelligence & decision making are vastly improved. Scored from a nice Speakmen kick but was a real threat to Wire when thrusted into line. A couple of real classy short balls & offloads too.
Still needs to work on his defence, needs to be more assertive & aggressive in defence but cant see how personally he isnt in our first choice 17.
Incidentally the form of Carl Forster also worthy of a mention. Real powerhouse front rower for our reserve side, consistently beats the first defender, wins the collission & very good defender. Mobile for his size & has a very good offload. Threw a worldie of a ball of the floor that led to a try & after his duel reg loan to Swinton is looking close to first team selection IMO. A better player than Magennis & offering more at this level than Cloughie ever did & has far more to his game. Early days but a real gem.

Wow. Saddened in thinly veiled dig at wellens shock. Had anyone else brought TGIF thread up then it may have been worth discussing, but as part of saddened's personal agenda it is laughable.

There is no veil, I'll admit anywhere that I don't rate Wello as a player now. He's 2 years past his use by date and his performances are collapsing into farce. If any other player played the way he did against Warrington and Huddersfield in our last 2 home games, they would be villified. His contribution to the team is not a positive now and I'll keep going with this until he leaves, as it seems to wind you all up.

Yup. Bobbie Goulding and Bernard Dwyer seem to be in it, which perhaps enforces opinions of Warrington's academy.

Heard we were linked with a couple of Wire junior players in particular Ben Currie. Big unit with a good offload & difficult to put down, wasnt overly impressed with the wire side overall tho, admittedly based purely on that one game.

We enquired about Currie and got told where to go.
