Captain's behaviour : Sun May 27, 2012 10:14 pm
I won't go into his performance again as it's ground I've been over enough and after today I doubt anyone can argue with it now. The word on the street that he's just signed a contract extension is worrying, but again we'll leave that discussion for when it's announced. What I started this thread for is to discuss his behaviour, particularly in relation to his role as Captain. Wello's body language from the off today was awful, he doesn't encourage or try to raise the players up, but he's not afraid to have a go either. As the tries rained in he gradually lost control and it culminated in his being very lucky to remain on the field when he confronted the referee. Thaler was very patient, telling him repeatedly to put his hands down. He could't manage it though, holding the back of his head instead of flapping them about. What is annoying me about his protests is that they very rarely have any grounds to them. I'm one of the most biased people in the world watching a game live and I couldn't see anything wrong with it. He does it every time the opposition score now, flapping his arms and ranting incoherently, often just throwing the f-bomb around. Does he need to do this? I've theorised it's just his frustrations at his own inability coming out in the only release he can find, but it's not very endearing and I don't think it'll be long before he's sent off doing it.
There are also reports on a few of the forums on here that he gave the v to the Wigan fans today as well. If true, how long can P Wellens continue to be Captain of this club? That is the kind of desperate, petulant behaviour we love to roast Sam Tomkins about, and now we're doing it.
