I was thinking about this on my way in to work this morning and I'm going to ask you all what you would do to sort the mess out if you were head coach at Saints now
I would:
Ban use of twitter the night before game day and anybody found using it would be dropped from the squad and replaced that weekend! Twitter would only be allowed post match and on your rest day only.
Organise a three day boot camp with the Royal Marines to a) Increase Fitness, b) Improve Stamina, c) Re-instil the Killer Instinct that we're sadly lacking.
Pick a squad based on capability and not on reputation
Re-register KC and get him on that boot camp as a priority.
Refuse to play players out of position unless absolutely necessary
Refuse to rotate the squad unless necessary
Ensure tackling technique is mastered so that silly penalties are not conceded
Refuse to play Meli and Flannery until they improve their defensive standards (which has never happened in all my time of Watching them in the Saints team.)
Recruit for positions that we need and respectfully ask for transfer fees from the board if needs be.
I would develop a Plan B, C, D, and E if Plan A fails. If needs be a mixture of all plans to be implemented so that our attack becomes unpredictable.
Ensure defence is solid and not reckless.
Ensure that the teams mentality is that they succeed as a team and they fail as a team, no individual will be singled out as the reason for success or failure.

Organise a three day boot camp like the idea but it needs to be drills ball in hand, this for me is more of a pre-season idea
Re-register KC didnt last year when we were short on numbers so wont happen

I'd get them all to dye their hair blonde and get them all to change their surname by deed poll to 'McCarthy-Scarsbrook' (to confuse the opposition and also to increase revenue on printed shirts).

I would also make sure I worse shades at all times, I'd always wear a suit jacket over a t-shirt (with a tie for cup games or local derbies) and would answer every question of every pre or post match interview with "You'll see.........."

How could we fail?

If I was in charge of saints now I would:

Resign
Go to the beach
Maybe buy an ice cream
Wait and watch as another coach gets mullered for not bringing trophies to a team that has no leader and no stars (edit: except Roby... but putting him at LF are some of you mad?) and should rightfully be top 8 maybe top 5.

You are going through a transition and until the fans who feel entitled to success (not all of you) and those who feel entitled on the board realize that no coach will be staying more than half a season.

I'd phone Darren Lockyer and try and get him out of retirement for the rest of the season. Giving us the experience, direction and variety of plays we need.

You'd have to cut someone loose to free the quota space, but we'd manage.

I would freeze Paul Wellens in carbonite and install him on the side of Langtree Park first.

Then I would release Wheeler, Hohaia, Perry and Gardner and sign Scott Dureau, Larne Patrick and Jamie Lyon. I would then mortgage the stadium and buy the best two props in the world.

Not really much thought given as they were completely random ideas (good and bad) but it was more a way of getting people on this forum to offer up ideas of what they would have done differently to Royce Simmons, even those that supported him. So insult me all you want as you are entitled to your opinion, as I am to mine, as I was hoping to raise a thought provoking debate as to how we would do things if given the head coach's job at St Helens (good or bad ideas always welcome as what one person would think would work another person would be inclined to disagree as we have with your response to my OP)

Hohaia to scrum half.
Lomax to hooker. When Roby comes back alternate with Lomax and loose forward.
Makinson to full back.
Wellens as a full-time substitute (the only role he is now capable of playing).
Remind Jon Wilkin, in the strongest terms, of his responsibilities.
Give Gaskell and Foster a break with Wilkin filling in at stand-off.
