Mike Critchley's match report in the St Helens Star is very good and worth a read. I think it sums up the impression of the match I got from the commentary and I would be interested to hear from those people who went to the match whether they agree with his assessment.

Pretty much agree with that.

We did a lot right and I think we just lacked that bit extra at times to break them down.

Yes, that's a pretty accurate account. He's right that we did enough to win the game, and with a little more composure we would have done. I think he's a little harsh on Gardner regarding that knock-on, though. It was an awkward shallow kick which I reckon Brough had shanked, and he had to take it at pace and really low to the ground. To say he was under no pressure isn't really fair.

After reading the report it seems to me that Saints would have won that game if either Cunningham or Long had been playing.

We lack a player that can do something special when needed that we've had in the past with the likes of martyn, longy, KC, Lyon etc.

FOR FECK'S SAKE!!!

Get a grip, people!

Lomax and Gaskell have not yet played a full season together!

And LOADS of people were saying Longy was past it for at least two years before he left! Same with Cunningham! So stop going on and on about players with ooodles of experience who were past their prime when they left when we have TWO FANTASTIC YOUNG TALENTS learning their jobs in a YOUNG SIDE that could be absolutely TERRIFIC over the coming seasons!

And it's ONLY THE FIFTH ROUND!!
