It was a good game. It was a game of two halves due to the slope on the Oldham pitch and how heavy the pitch was.
Saints went up hill in the first half and struggled to get field position. Oldham worked very hard and did not make many mistakes. Saints had the best of it in the second half but a mistake from a drop out near the end, when Saints were pressing for the winning try, gave Oldham the ball allowing them to score the final try.
Good points. Mark Percival did some really good things. His own try was a good finish after a run around between Ashe and Gardner, from a kick return, sent Ashe down the field before a pass inside to Percival to finish it off. Percival also did a Shenton-esk suck in and slip pass to his winger in the lead up to Ashes try. Also his goal kicking was amazing coverting all Saints tries from hard angles.
Josh Jones and Ashe also looked good in the back line. Jones especially worked very hard. Jordon Hand looked at home in the mudd and did some good graft in the middle. Greenwood looked useful too but made a few mistakes.
Slightly on the negative side, Perry got pushed back a number of times, he put in some runs and did some tackling but he did not look like he was a class above his opponents. A lot of this could have been down to the mudd and he did get 60 mins game time under his belt which should do a lot for his match fitness. Also Forster went of in the first half with an impact injury which was a shame given he could have done with the game time.
