I noticed that Jon Wilkin was having a "Celebration Year". http://www.jonwilkin.co.uk/aims Never heard of one of these before. Is it like a Testimonial year when your club won't grant you an official testimonial year because one of your colleagues is already having one? Seems strange that Wilkin states "I have been very lucky that a testimonial committee has formed" when its not a testimonial. I'd also imagine that if another player was having a testimonial they wouldn't be too happy about potential rivals to getting punters to part with their cash; could even lead to a rift in the camp. Mind you if a player was turned down for a testimonial when they already had a committee and plans in place I bet they'd be pretty pee'd with the club and possibly look at emigrating if one of their mates was doing so.

Strange one.

Testimonials used to be tax free (I'm not 100% sure if they still are) and suspect they still are. Would a "celebration year" be tax free?

If not surely Wilkin would have been better to wait until Gardners testimonial had finished.

It's just an excuse for the club to bundle him some excess tax and celery cap free cash. Jonny Lomax's is next year, Sia Soliola's is the year after.

Its merely JW using PR speak re his testimonial year.

The blulb also states that the testimonial year starts in 2012.
Ade Gardners testimonial is this year 2011 so no conflict there.

The website is essentially underconstruction as there is only basic info on there at present.
