The new tv deal in Aus sees their salary cap rise from $4.3M to $7M per year from 2013. http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/nrl/r ... 6052850747 Game over for AFL and RU in Oz if that's the case. I can see a big influx of top line SL stars over there in a few seasons unless there is a big change in the next TV rights deal over here.

We are losing top players as it is and the new salary cap is yet to come in effect.

Our TV deal wont go up. No one bar sky wants to show RL so its not like the RFL can play potential broadcasters off against each other. We are totally at the mercy of SKY who can pretty much pay what they want

If Sky want to pay peanuts, they will get monkeys because all the organ grinders will be down under earning their coin there!

It's a catch 22 situationfor Sky here. If they don't pay more, their product quality will suffer and they will be hit in the pocket with cancelled subscriptions.

And until we get a viable International competition that's how it will sadly remain.

Rugby league will never have a good international competition as not enough countries play the game which means it's a three team international competition between Aussies, kiwis and us.

I have mentioned a number of times that the new Aus TV deal is likely to have a seismic affect on Rugby.

The $1 billion+ tv deal will be the biggest rugby deal of either code by far.

It wont have any effect on AFL because they have negotiated a $1.3 billion deal.

However RU in the southern hemisphere and RL in the northern hemisphere is likely to feel the heat.

There are currently approximately $1.5 aussie dollars to the £

Hence an Aussie salary cap of $7 million is the equivalent of £4.6 million. If you divide that by 30 players, it comes out at over £150,000 per player average.

It doesnt take a genius to work out that we will therefore in all likelyhood see many of Britains best players moving down under.
The Aussie salary cap will actually be larger than the business turnovers of most superleague clubs. Only Leeds and Warrington have significantly more than this figure.

All this makes you wonder why Kyle decided to throw his lot in with the union bunch.

Aussies, kiwis, south Africa, England, France and Irish are all good teams then add the likes of western Samoa, tonga, Wales and Italy who are ok teams.

Australia
France
England
South Africa
Wales
Ireland
Argentina

The top five are in that list could be considered top class and the bottom three are definitely competitive on their day. Therefore they can have a meaningful competition.
