Under 18's Curtain Raiser. : Sat May 07, 2011 6:05 pm
An excellent showing from the youngsters today, beating the Crusaders under 18's 82 - 0 To keep the opposition team to nil points was a good showing defence wise as teams generally relax and take their foot off the gas. Well done to all the players. One Saints player I don't know who it was was stretchered off near the end.

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill)

While I thought it was great that our u18s won well, I felt sorry for the Crusaders lads. At that age it must be really, really difficult to recover for the next match. I watched the second half and it was men and boys really, except that most of our u18s looked extremely under 18! The fullback looked like he still went to primary school!

Apparently the under 20's had a good result against Bradford too.

What good does that do either team?

If it was the Wigan kids you'd be on here saying how amazing they are!
But no, it doesn't do much good

Simon, you should know me better. I've argued the same point for many years on the Wigan site.
In fact I've said the same thing today about Wigan U16's v Cas.

I'm sure I put a wink in there!
I don't see an easy solution, putting the academy sides in the national leagues might be an idea but I can guess how the national league sides would take that!

Seriously, it's frightening. Our game is going backwards at a rate of knots. Yes it's more competitive (so is St. Pats v St. Judes) but the overall standard is declining.

I did put on the other site that we can see why players are going out on dual reg. contracts. It does the opposition team no good - but you can only play what is put before you. It took concentration to keep the opposition to nil when it would have been so easy to just relax and take your foot off the gas.
