Calling forward passes just seems to be a case of sticking a wet finger in the air and seeing which way the wind is blowing.
I'm getting really disillusioned by these calls lately - it's costing teams points and may well cost someone a cup match or even a final.
How hard can it be?
I know. I just couldn't believe that invented one and then Leeds threw loads of the bloody things and I think one was called! It affected our game with Wigan (which would have been a draw had the correct call been made) and it clearly affected the first half at Cas (although they looked well off the boil today and so quite possibly would have lost anyway). As you say, though, the incredible ineptitude of touchies and refs to spot a forward pass could cost a team in a serious match. Yet there appears to be no improvement in spite of the volume of noise about the matter. The issue is turning the game into a bit of a joke, not least frustrating for those of us who want to see a fair game of rugby league.
