Saints Scholarship : Mon Sep 20, 2010 9:56 pm
Saints have hit the jack pot once again. After poaching 2 of Warringtons finest U15 players last year in Lewis Charnock and Andre Savelio (Saints U15 Vice captain and Captain).

We have now gone and poached their U14 player of the year for our U15's team next year :D His name is Joe Ryan and despite being a year younger than Charnock he as been moved up a year to play alongside him for Ryland Sharks U16's.

We're doing things right people.

While its great we are signing up some of the very talented youngsters, should "poaching" them be classed as doing things right lol

Could you not say something they are coming to try new facilities and team mates after all they weren't signed to Warrington (were they?) Makes us sound so much better...

Do like your updates though, keep up the good work! Hope to see you updating in a few years time when some are about to break in the first team squad

We're doing things right are we?

I'm not sure you're doing these children any favours by mentioning them on here.

I only mention the players names once they hit U15 level as that's when they sign scholarship forms. Have you ever been to a scholarship U15 game? The standard is fantastic! One of the best games I've watched this year wad Saints U15 vs Wigan. Skill, fighting, big hits etc.... Some of the lads top 6 foot they are starting there rugby league career.

I'm not adding pressure I'm just letting others saints fans know which prospects we have. Like people told me about Eastmond etc... If anything I'm trying to add a bit of interest to our junior set up it would be great to see bigger crowds for our scholarship teams.

I remember when I posted last year about Wilde, Ashurst, Yates and Lewis Foster. People said too young at 15/16 well these lads have played a number of games at 18 level this year.

Yeah, I've been to a couple of Scholar games and plenty of Service Area games in the past. Not sure how you can take enjoyment of watching kids fight, but still.

I think that naming young players on this forum is fine.

1. They are unlikely to read it.
2. They would probably think it was great that people were excited by them coming to Saints.

Hearing that we have more good young kids on the way is great. Lets be honest given the restrictions of the salary cap and our injuries this season our youth system have saved our bacon. Guys like Ashurst, Dixon, Foster, Maggennis, Lomax, Armstrong, etc have been fantastic for us. It is great to hear that we are not resting on our laurels and we are willing to hustle other teams to make sure we have the best kids about.

I can imagine that we are going to have some issues in the near future to have to pick between these kids like Smith Vs Eastmond but wouldn't that be a great problem to have.

You're missing the point. It's not enjoyment in them fighting it's the realisation that these lads are turning into young men, mature etc... It's also great to see lads who have been used to playing against each other for years then battling alongside each other for saints course.

I wont stop posting names and I'm gonna keep this thread updated. If people wish to read then great if others like yourself think it's wrong then don't bother Reading.

Ps. I talk to Greg Wilde and he was delighted to see his name pop up on a forum. Saints make sure the ladd know that they have alot to do if they want to make it. Someone giving them credit on a forum will not destroy or over do there ego!

Savelio looked a beast against Wigan 15's earlier this year.

Some very good players on both sides I thought.

Some of the players ourselves and Wigan have at youth level are absolutely class players. Granted they may not all make it, but with the amount of talent both teams have there will be some super legends in the makings.

I cant speak for Wigans youth but I know at Saints they are all hard working lads who all have the right attitude

Cunningham needs to stay around the club in some capacity as hes a mentor to all these kids.
