Only read the first page of the thread and did a little celebratory dance in my office. How have I missed this wonderful news for so long?

The guy is an utter liability when the going gets tough. Below are a couple of posts from this thread after the 2011 GF summing up his contribution to Saints last FIVE Grand Finals:

SFW wrote:
2007: Meli is out-jumped by Lee Smith for a try at 6-19. Perhaps a little harsh this one but he is favourite to win the ball.

2008: Meli drops an easy catch at 16-18 for McGuire's crucial try.

2009: Pathetic attempt to dead a grubber kick by McGuire, Smith again benefits when 8-4 to Saints.

2010: Flaps at Sam Tomkins for his try, 6-16 but well in the game after Wigan's good start.

2011: Mugged completely by Burrow, falling for the dummy and leaving Hall wide open for his try at 16-16. Then, with no regard for the ball whatsoever, literally drags Ablett over the line for the match winning try.

:FRUSRATED: :WALL:

SFW wrote:
You can forgive a rookie for a couple of mistakes as it's part of their learning curve, but this is a guy with NRL Grand Final experience and 14 NZ caps before he even signed for us. He has proven time and again that he doesn't have it in the head for these high-intensity games, and playing well in the centres for the increasingly meaningless regular season did nothing to change my opinion.

He simply cannot play for us again in a game of that magnitude.

Not sure what more I can add to that 18 months on.

Reading in todays Rugby papers Meli might be doing a u turn and staying. He is enjoying playing for Mr. Brown and has had a slightly different role this year.

Looks a very different player under Brown to be fair, seems to be making a lot more busts and half breaks too

He scores a couple of good tries and people forget he is a liability, especially in the big games against the big teams who know it and exploit it.

If we make it to a grand final I wouldnt trust him to bring the water on never mind play. With some players it's a mental thing and he must have some mental scars now after all his monumental cockups

He scored a try on Friday but everyone forgets that Salford scored one by running between him and Josh Jones.

I hope he does stay, he more than makes up for his overhyped errors in attack.

Sorry, he can be good in attack, but he simply cannot handle the pressure and every opposing kicker knows it, I'm expecting a perfect demonstration from St.helens' own Matty Smith on Friday
