I don't think he'd burn Penny for pace, but he's no slouch. He can't have bulked up too much, he's playing 7, not 13, it can't be much of a change to his current fitness training regime.

Absolutely - Briers would never have gotten a game at Saints while Longy was on the scene. He'd have been exactly what we've been lacking for the last 3 or 4 years however. Maybe if Saints had played it differently back then he'd have been happy to sit in the reserves for 10 years waiting for his chance, but I doubt it.

Ah, right - only "World Class" players could improve upon the stellar talents of Meli, Wheeler, Shenton, Gardner etc. It's simply inconceivable that squeezed between this motley collection and Greg Inglis, Billy Slater and company there might, just might, be a small group of players who can catch, run and pass.
