I'm not making negative comments at all, read my posts. I said he's a good player and will make a career of it. I also said I think he may be on the same level as Danny Orr, a compliment in my book.

I could have said people picking Gaskell in a fully fit starting team over Pryce this year is ridiculous, but I didn't because I'm not as confrontational as you are.

You can see who has potential to be good and who has potential to be great from a very early stage no matter what you say. Look how Sam Tomkins burst on the scene, he has massive potential to be great if he cuts a few facets out of his game. I'm not comparing Gaskell to Tomkins, but I haven't seen anything in Gaskell to suggest he will be 'great'.

Everybody is welcome to their opinion.

I would like to formally eat my words. Last night's performance from Gaskell was nothing short of phenomenal and showed me that there is a spark. If he pull that out again I would be delighted.

I agree with most of your post mate. I'm not saying pick certain players because of there names. I'm all for picking form players. Lomax has been awesome at 7 and IMO he's earned that role and Kyle has lost his shirt.

In the Gaskell situation, I think he's done really well, he's done everything asked of him and I really like him but I don't think he's played that well for pryce not to take his shirt. He's been steady and that's all that should have been asked of him but at this moment in time I think a 60% Pryce is better than Gaskell at this moment.

IMO I don't think we will win anything this year or next year at least with lomax and Gaskell as the halves. They will never let us down and will rip it up against the not so good teams but in the big games against Wigan, hudds, Leeds, wolves I think they would struggle.

I'm not saying drop Gaskell altogether but maybe he's a good shout for the back that Royce likes on the bench and bring him in against the teams we are expected to beat so he's still active in the first team and getting regular super league game time to keep his development up.

Fair enough, that would seam a more balanced approach. I can also see an arguement now for Pryce at fullback. I love Wellens and he is legend. But Pryce may offer some more potency on the returns.

I will choose to be gracious at this point.

I was very impressed by Gaskell last night. There were some very good signs in his play and willingness to take control. I also loved that interception of his. Meli's was great, but seeing a young bloke nick one from the former champions was something special. :D

When Leon is eventually fit he should be named as the substitute back for a while and eased into things.

We may even have the luxury of giving him a couple of games in the reserves to get him up to match fitness. Pryce when fit should start at six, gaskell would probably drop into the reserves as I think if wheeler is fit, he'd be better on the bench as he can player more positions. Gaskell has done well, but people forget just how good Leon was last season alongside Kyle before their respective injuries.

As for next year, assuming Leon goes, as expected. I'd like to see gaskell out on loan with the option to be recalled should we have a similar injury crisis

Gaskell has done really well and deserves to stay at 6. just keeps turning up and providing
a little more with each game.
Was impressed on friday with his "D" as well as his running and kicking game.

Pryce on the bench for a couple of games is a sensible idea.

Pryce to FB till he goes at the end of the season is spot on. Moving Wellens is taboo
but does not mean it is wrong.

The right side attack really needs looking at. Saints have bought a GB strike centre
who has a young bloke with gas outside him and they never get a pass.
Everything goes down the left. I think wilkin deserves some credit as he uses
the ball well and gets his centre running where possible. Sia might be buldozing yards
in contact but he is stifling anything outside.

Therefore moving Sia to a LF battering ram role and Wellens to right SR would be
an approach.

Re: Who should play where : Sun Jun 05, 2011 12:51 pm
Gaskell is a very under rated player by a lot of Saints fans. His game awareness for someone with so little games is amazing plus his kicking has been excellent. Lomax may catch the eye with his step by Gaskells passing and kicking have been more important to the team. Saying that we have to ignore this due to him only having 10 or so games is a big case of looking at the glass half empty.

As for who will play when Pryce comes back, I do not see why it has to be a choice. I have always thought that Leon would finish his career at 13. The choice may not even have to be made given how much Leon has played in the last 12 months.

I think there is little point with coming up with a "when they are all back" as things like Ades ACL can happen. I doubt there will be a point when everyone is back this season.

I think the games moved on now and Leon ain't the style of loose that Royce likes. TP and magennis will both start at loose if fit but next year I think laffranchi will be are loose/prop next year.

It's how the game is going, the ball playing loose is on its way out now.
