Re: 19 man Squad v Salford : Thu Feb 11, 2016 10:25 pm
The blame for tonight lies mainly with Owens and the pack (as well as Cunningham obviously) if you ask me. From our forwards we had poor line speed, awful control of the PTB speed and consistently put on our backs all night. Even more criminal than this, we were out-enthused. With regards to Owens, I'm generally pretty reserved with judging players after a couple of matches, but I don't think he's a fullback. Looking beyond his obvious missed tackles and knock ons, his numbering up was really poor. We consistently got our numbers wrong and the blame for that has to lie with your fullback. He's also too sidewards on kicks, which only really works if you're absolutely rapid and can beat players consistently on the outside. In the first half he took a kick on about the 35 after a (rare) good defensive set, went most of the width of the pitch and made maybe 5 metres forward. If he had been really direct he'd have got over halfway and we finish the set on Salford's line. Instead he goes sidewards, gets dominated by an aggressive defensive and finishes with a slow PTB in a corner, meaning we don't get over halfway till 3rd.
