Interesting. In all the hoopla I haven't heard any assessments in how wheeler went - the stats don't show him doing much (2 errors too)
He just looked anonymous. Didn't miss any tackles though, which is an advantage. Might he be better in the centre spot?
McDonnell/ Wellens
Makinson Percival Jones Swift
Turner wheeler/Wilkin
I'd like to see what McDonnell can bring bearing in mind we are very short on attacking threats now. Wello had a poor game last night but given we can't loan anyone now and clearly we aren't going to be blooding any young halves this season, it looks like Wello will take one halfback berth until one of Hohaia or Wilkin return (Wilkin may well be out for the season apparently).
Turner did well last night. He can kick goals so maybe he has something to offer on the field too (I know the two aren't the same but hey, desperate times!). Wheeler's attempts at kicking last night were awful. To get to 26 as a halfback and not be able to kick is really poor IMO. But anyway, I'd give Turner a go as he really took the game by the scruff of the neck I thought.
If Wello can marshal some kind of attack, in tandem with Robes, and Turner take more of a running role then maybe that might be a start? Who knows? I sure don't! All I know is what I saw last night and I thought Turner offered more than Wheeler.
