"Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!" Matthew 4:19

Things I learned on 11/08/12

Gareth Hock can't pass
Gareth Hock can't run
Gareth Hock can't fight

I'm assured he can snort a line of coke the size of a Mecca dauber though.

It was bloody boring to watch! The only reason me and my mates continued to watch it was in the hope that Hudds would actually manage to finish off one of their many try-scoring opportunities. Ten minutes to go and we gave up!

Bloody hell, if that's the way we are going then my watching of rugby league will soon end. Hopefully all the other teams will adopt Tony Smith style approach: great defence but open, attacking rugby league. Save our sport from three man pileys and rolling mauls!

If that is what we will be watching in five years i accept our union overlords

I agree that defence is as important as attack but it is the style of defence that I am at odds with. There is no reason for three and four man tackles with the wrestling element to prove a good defence. That is just slowing the game down, presumably to ensure that the handful of really gifted players Wigan actually have can do their business. Wise tactics. However, it makes for a dull match. Warrington can do great defence but they don't do it Wigan's way. Hudds do. Put them together and man, it was boring. Frustrating too, mind you, because Hudds were so incompetent in fulfilling their many opportunities. Had they at least scored more, as they should have done, then the attacking edge would have balanced the defensive dullness to some degree.

No, give me Wire -v- Leeds or Cas -v- us or some other combination of more expansive types of rugby league (and in our case PLEASE NOTE! I am projecting into a hopeful future), with great defence on offer but none of that

three/four man in wrestling show.

Now tell me great defince is boring.. Saints defended brilliantly and won the game on the back of it!

And I prefer the Warrington version to the Wigan one. In Superleague terms, Wigan -v- Hudds was always going to be a snoozefest for me but I had hoped that Hudds would have been grown up about the matter and not behaved like rabbits in the headlights again. Alas, they still have a significant way to go in conquering their 'big game' nerves.

But that match was nothing like Wigan -v- Hudds! It was pacey, it was great attacking rugby league! Wigan -v- Hudds was a snoozefest!

Like I said, you can have great defence but still have great open, attacking rugby.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

No it was error strewn with no structure. Wigan or Huddersfield would have beaten both those those teams by 12 points.
If you want to watch games like that I suggest you go watch basketball or in your case netball.

Saints were by far the better team btw.

Yeah, like you did in Cardiff you mean?

If that is what 'no structure' means then give me no structure any day of the week. I just loved that match. That's my kind of rugby league. You can keep your unionesque style if it suits.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions

Oh, not me. I was fully in support of Royce Simmons. So I'm enjoying the fact that it would appear the coach was not the problem; the team was the problem. Or, more to the point, the attitude of the team was the problem.

Me, I'm just feeling smug about saying the sensible stuff on here for once! :D

Whenever I want a good laugh on here I just make sure I have a read of what SaintsFan says because it has zero relevance to reality - Wigan scored more tries than any other team last season - not bad for such a defensive, boring team eh?

Sometimes you have to play the cards you have been dealt, which is what Wigan did last night and what Saints did tonight given the players they both had missing - both teams taking account of which team they were playing and what strengths and weaknesses their own players had, as well as the opposition. Both in their own way were utterly ruthless and clinical and it's games like these that will determine where we both are in the mix at the end of the season.

Kerching! Wrong! WE did!

But even if you had, that wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference. Your method of doing so with your stifling defence would still have bored me to sleep.

It's all a matter of taste. But I'm on the open attacking play side, with a good defence obviously.

You're right (always a first time eh?), we were until the last couple of games. Anyway still not bad for such a boring team. Who would have thought such a boring defensive team had the two top try scorers who were both wingers? We all know there's nothing a defensive boring team love more than playing expansive rugby and getting ball out to their wingers.

If we're so boring, what does that make Saints given you only scored 8 more tries last season?
