It's ok bringing them through but why you buying players left right and centre?
To thicken the squad out and cover the losses we've had. We may be good at bringing players through but we're not good enough to just stop all recruitment. We are buying players with potential that can come in and be improved (Bowen aside) and aren't costing the earth. They are being added to an absolute wealth of young, local talent that is currently in the first team squad and on the verge of breaking in to it. We've got an abundance of young, Wigan lads in our first 17 at the moment but we've got even more waiting in the wings. The likes of George Williams, Joe Burgess, Dom Manfredi (A leyther to be fair), Oliver Gildart and Rob Lever will come through over the next two seasons and become top line players. We've got 4 Wigan born players and a total of 6 Wigan produced players in the England rugby league squad. We even have 2 Wigan born players in the England Union squad which is incredible (Plus Joel Tomkins who is Wigan produced). The latter bunch in the union squad probably highlights why we'll always have to sign players from outside the club (there are richer pickings on offer for players elsewhere).
Saints have recruited well for next year and that needed to be the case because your playing catch up but Wigan look to be ticking along nicely. I think the way the Wigan club is run at the moment is the envy of many which certainly wasn't the case 4 or 5 years ago, before Ian Lenagan took over.
