Except a Superleague take over isn't the right manner. Its the manner of a few self-interested chairman, with the obnoxious Leneghan at the forefront, may the gods help us.
The RFL clearly needs to change. It's full of administrators and little else. The media department don't know how to deal with the media. Nobody has an ounce of creativity or dynamism about them. But what we don't need is a bunch of rich chairmen protecting their own investments in charge. Read League Weekly to get a fuller report on what this is all about. And they kick up this fuss right before the world cup. That'll bring the punters (and following money) into the game obviously. Arrogant fools.
I think I would prefer to take the risk of rich chairmen shaking things up for better or worse than the RFL taking us rock bottom into obscurity.
Less player participtation, less sponsorship, less media prescence, less funding, less investment is the ideal recipe for the collapse of rugby league as a professional sport.
The timing of the situation, maybe the chairmen don,t want the RFL to hide behind a possible successful world cup and short term paper over the cracks.
We,ve had no sponsor for superleague this season and maybe there is no sponsor for next season as well, 30k price money for the games top competion is a total disgrace. Will the rich chairmen see the game is no longer a viable proposition or will they fight to re structure the game, I think it will be the latter.
I can see more clubs joining up for re structure with perhaps only the weakened financial clubs in London, Bradford, Wakefield and Castleford not going with the flow. The RFL have already cancelled this Wednesdays meeting so maybe thats an early sign of clubs taking control and taking the fight to the RFL.
