I think in part thats because Wello has slimmed down a bit.
I'm sure if he was given a forwards rather than backs training regime and bulked up he would be far better.
However there would still be question marks over whether he would be as good as an experienced backrower like Flannery, Wilkin, Puletua, Clough etc.
I think many of us are also forgetting that the game has evolved a lot since the part time era pre superleague. In those days it wasnt uncommon for bigger backs to move into the backrow as they aged. People like Kel Coslett and Neil Fox being two very notable examples. Ruben Wiki being the last notable example i can think of in the SL NRL era.
