As a lifelong saints fan I am astounded that contributors to this forum consider it appropriate to repeatedly slag off a club legend , the current captain and a person who without exception runs his blood to water every time he steps out in the red vee. Wello stepped in today at an hours notice at 6 and played a prominent role in securing an important win. In defence he wrapped up Ali Lautiti all afternoon. Players turning possession over in good attacking positions were Roby and Lomax, not Wello who played good rugby to lay on two tries. Most of the contributors never even went to the game - relying on Ray French to keep the accurately informed. St Pete you are clearly a mate or related to a junior player at saints - how else would you get the team right every week - maybe you thing wello is blocking the way for your mate but slagging him off in the way that you do will not earn your mate a starting shirt they have to do that themselves with their own performances. You even referred to yourself as a mate of Wellos in a previous thread -how dare you place yourself in that company you are not worthy. Saddened - your motives for the consistent attacks on Wello are clearly not based on the good of the team and an informed insight into the game. For some reason you have developed a fierce personal dislike of Wello which you are intent on translating into the trail of comments which fail to acknowledge even in the slightest degree the positive contribution of a a great player and a suberb ambassador for the club and the game. Other clubs embrace the contribution of their experienced players such as Peacock, Morley etc isn't it about time we did the same. We are top of the league played 6 won 6 Looking forward to seven in seven on Fri COYS
Hi Paul's Mum.
If you'd bothered to read what I put, I've often said it's hard to criticise him because of what he's DONE for the club and how heroic a player he WAS for us. But check the tense, it's been 5 years since he's been good enough to play for us. Lomax would have been better at 1 since he first broke through and they waited far too long to make that change.
My subsequent criticism of him is based on the FACT that he's not as good as the other players in the squad. It's frustrating watching him go through the motions now, pretending to be a forward/halfback. Over the last few years of him at fullback, his own frustration at not being good enough came over a lot, the pathetic flapping his arms at the ref, the tantrums, the general grumpy demeanor. Now after finally being removed from the 1 shirt, rather than retire with his legacy somewhat intact he's accepted a role that is completely fabricated and utterly cringeworthy. He's no SL forward, never has been and never will be. But rather than showing some personal pride and retiring, he'll just happily play every game this season and deny others their chance. Not a very legendary behaviour that, I'll tell you.
If the club had used him very occasionally, arguably on days like today when we've got a few out, and strictly at fullback, it's one thing. Him playing every single game whether there is a logical place for him in the team or not is another. He can't be enjoying it himself, he must know he's not deserving of the place in the team he's taking.
