Cas will be favourites as they had a good win last week away and we got stuffed at home.

If a player is good enough he's old enough and if a player is old but still going strong then great.

I've always maintained that too many of either is not good in a team long term.

Nothing will happen.

The chairman made a similar statement in the matchday programme a few weeks back. There has been no improvement, as witnessed by us on Friday night, and everyone is still in place.

The chairman was having a dig at the fans (all that sticking together bullocks) while letting those same fans know that basically we're wasting our money this season (all that building for next season bullocks).

Brown needs time, and some fresh faces. However, the new contracts for Ade, Wellens and Laffranchi and rumours of a new deal for LMS have shown McManus' comments to be somewhat empty and hypocritical.

No because the "balance" of the side is still o.k. If we were running with six or more thirty year olds and signed another one or two I would be the first to complain. I've seen what happens when you let a team grow old together and then think you have it made with all young players to replace them. It happened at Wigan going back to the Boston, Ashton, McTigue era, and again around 2004 when we thought that Brown, Wild, Aspinwall, Hodgson, Tickle, Robinson, Hock, O'Loghlin would just sweep all before them for the next 10 years.

Isn't that one of the reasons Brown wants Wellens to stay on?

The statement basically is saying, keep coming and paying your hard earned money this year as we are going to try harder.

And "buy your season tickets for 2014 as we are building a good young squad"

Its all a another big con to get people pay. Just like the big con of we are going with youth as we have the best youth in the league.

I'm looking forward to his 2015 selling point.

I remember 4 to 5 years ago McManus made a statement that the future of the club was a 5 year plan to invest in youth to maintain our standing in the game.
Unfortunately as we already know this has failed due to the inability to develop our potential young players into the final phase step up to Superleague. The clubs "achilles heal" is the failure rate of the youth and the the substitution of average overseas players.
When you look at the youth of Smith, Eastmond, Tyrer, Ashurst, Wheeler, Dean,Lomax, Gaskell, Emmitt, Dixon, Clough etc etc we are very poor in that only Lomax has progressed through to standard.
We need the right structure in place similar to Leeds and Wigan to bring our next crop of young players through, the question is do we have anything in place to develop and be more productive instead of this wastage that we see today.
