I was talking to an ex coach after the game and expressed my doubts regarding NB. The ex coach said he had been talking to Kieran Cunningham who Reckons Brown is the best coach that he has seen during his time at the Saints.

??????? regarding Kieran.

And I'm told the same by players.

Sometimes that maybe because he lets quite a lot go and his staff and players are protected from mediocrity by the boss.

St Helens coach Nathan Disco Brown:

"I can't fault our effort, but we never got in the contest. It was our most disappointing performance since I've been here.
"Our attack was poor. They kept kicking the ball behind our wingers and we did it once. They kept forcing us into errors and we weren't smart.
"It was disappointing for the fans because we are capable of better than that. We had been building along nicely recently but we have taken a step backwards."

I sometimes wonder if he's watching the same game as the rest of us. He might not be able to fault the effort but I bl00dy well can. At times I wish he'd just be honest and just say we were terrible.

Compare that to

Wigan coach Shaun Apeman Wane:

"It was a poor performance. I thought Castleford were really good. They defended well and handled the conditions better than us.
"I want to commend them because Daryl Powell has done a great job while he has been there and the best team won. Castleford are the best team we have had here.
"We lacked a bit of energy and, if that is because of last Monday, then I expect us to get over that. We are better than that and it will never be used as an excuse. I still expect us to perform."

The more I think about it the less confidence I have in Brown. When the players praise him it might because he's technically great or because he's a top bloke but I'd rather have a winner any day of the week.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

It's a sad state of affairs when we are so far behind we can't even make ape man jokes anymore.

No wonder the players praise him - who else would have asked Wello and LaFfranchi to stay on? Who else would have persevered with the old guard and kept his faith in the likes of HiHo etc?

So if the players think Brown is a great coach, were do they think it's gone wrong? The lack of a half back cannot be blamed for a lot of the feeble showings this year.

The new young dynasty of super saints is coming to a ground near you.
Welsby-Dodd-Simms-Eaves-Rizzelli, not Eastmond...the future is coming.

He might be a great coach with the exception of match days, so do we put a lot of blame on the players who can,t even do the basics right of pass, catch and tackle and adding the terrible playing attitude this season.

The majority of the team are brain dead in rugby terms surely Brown is responsible for that.

He got a pretty poor Huddersfield team to tackle and defend well, there's a reason it isn't working here. I'm not sure it's all his fault to be honest, our defence is the worst part of our game.

SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS

For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.

For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.

Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row

A couple of contacts I have at Saints really rate Brown so either he's a very good salesman and conning them or the fans have got it wrong. I suppose time will tell.
