Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill)

To put it in more simple terms for you, I am basing it on his overall skill set rather than his performances at full back, and after seeing him play since being in the under 20's, I am in a position to make that judgement.

That isn't putting it in more simple terms; it is changing the terms. Otherwise known as moving the goalposts. But I'll let you off as it was pay day yesterday and so I'm feeling in a good mood.

Jonny Lomax was reported by Rush as being the consistently best player in his cohort but that means squat just now doesn't it? I'd suggest the same applies to Makinson too.

I'd like to see him spend time in the position at first grade level before judging whether he is going to be any good there.

Jonny Lomax played most of his junior rugby at full back. I saw him play there against Wigan U21's several years back (2009 I think it was) and he had a great game in a losing team.

How is that changing the terms?

I made a comment, you questioned my reasons behind it, I explained them, you misunderstood them, before I finally managed to get my reasons across to you.

WRONG. INCORRECT and absolutely FALSE!!!!!! If you are going to make a statement then check your facts first. Jonny has played stand off since he was 7 years old.

I thought we were comfortably the better team in the first half, out muscling them up front, and Wilkin's kicking game gave us decent field position. I thought our defence was good on the whole, and as I said, we dominated field position in that first half. Pretty much all their tries came from Saints errors, forward pass for Puletua, and Walmsley's two errors at the ptb.
2nd half, our completion rate completely dropped, whilst Hull kept their's high, and that was the major difference in the end. We were visibly shattered towards the end, and in all honesty, we were lucky too come out of that game with a point.

The loss of Wellens was a huge factor, and as good as Tommy Mak is, he isn't, or never will be a full back IMO. What on earth was going through his mind when he through the ball away I don't know.

Even when the forwards were in control of the game, we seemed incapable of finding quick play the balls, and that has been visible in all three games so far. I know I keep on repeating myself, but we are in desperate need of a half back who can get us round the field, doesn't have to be a world beater, just someone who can take the game by the scruff off the neck and organise things. It says something about the halves when your loose forward is taking the ball at first receiver, and although Wilkin had a decent game, he isn't the answer.

Until we find a half decent half back, we will continue to struggle. Simple as

all saints tries came off fc errors or penalties too!

Hate to break it to you, but Lomax played played a fair amount of rugby at #1 before breaking into the first team.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Point won / Point Lost ??? : Sat Feb 16, 2013 5:08 pm
It's interesting to see the total difference between the view of Hull fans and Saints fans.

Reading the two boards you would have thought that Saints came off with a loss of 20 points.

In the end we matched a decent Hull side. Which is a whole point better than we managed this time last year. Saying we have gone backwards under Brown just 3 games in seams overly critical.

It's not been the best start, but that is mainly down to a terrible start against Huddersfield. But if we have not learned by now that coming out 100% in the opening couple of fixtures gets you diddly come season end then we have learned nothing.

Alot of this negativity seams to be a hangover of the previous era where we where challanging at the top week in week out. But in those years top of the league held a much bigger advantage come season end and the salary cap had not took full hold. The spread of players is far more nowadays than it was in 2000.

We are currently 3 points behind top and on equal points with Wigan.

His rugby playing days didn't start the moment he signed for Saints you know. He did have an amateur rugby career before that, and it was all played at stand off.

Trust me, Lomax played both #6 and #1 at Orrell St James, and continued to play in both positions when he signed for Saints.
