Hull got some tough games coming up in Warrington, Huddersfield, Leeds and Wigan, they need to lose to Warrington and Wigan but beat Huddersfield and Leeds. This may give us the the chance to create a gap in 3rd place before we play Catalans away.

I called a 3rd place finish and within the space of 2 weeks it's looking even more likely. Hull, Catalans and Huddersfield will drop stupid points, there's been no evidence under Rush and KC so far that we'll do the same. Let's hope we remain lucky with injuries and our professionalism shines through.

If you lose in week one, you get a 2nd chance, if you win you get a week off, otherwise it's knock out all the way.

Besides 4th is better than 8th.

I know the modern day RL supporter for Saints think it's all about the GF or nothing, but it's not really.

Most fans go to watch the weekly rounds. So 4th or 3rd mean more wins to watch as opposed to 8th which is more losses to watch.

Personally I think the GF is a nice gimick but for those of us who used to watch pre SL its the same format as the premiership. The only thing that has changed is the status given to the winners. In the end the league is still the measure of a side for me.

For example people are going ooo the champions have fallen outside the top 8 how strange. Were as you look at the league and say ooo those who finished 5th last year have now dropped to 9th. Not so shocking when you look at league form as oppossed to a run of 3 or 4 games at the end of the year, where every team does not play every other team.

I like the play-off idea, although the current format is absolute poop. The trouble with a league format is that teams will play each other in various states regarding form, injuries etc. If you run into the other contenders in bad form or with injuries you have an advantage over those who play them at full strength on top form. This can also work in reverse. Also the magic fixture gives some clubs 2 free points where others have to battle for them.

For me the league sorts clubs into a general order, the play-off's then decide who is actually the champion side. Champion sides play well when the pressure is on.
