Would be an utterly stupid decision to let Gaskell go, unless we have someone of proven international quality coming in. Makes no sense to let a promising kid walk into the arms of your closest rivals when the incoming coach has already stated he doesn't see our current no.6 playing there next season.
Hohaia may not be good enough, but neither, at the moment is Gaskell. There are no half backs available, off contraact, and off quota, therefore, if we want to get a better 6, then we have to look to do something different. Gaskell doesn't look as though he will figure in Brown's plans, therefore, trading him in for a "better" model makes sense? Yes, we don't want to lose him, but keeping him in the reserves to simply stop another club from signing him is neither fair on Gaskell, nor good business or sporting sense.
Getting someone to take Hohaia in a swap deal would be the ideal scenario, but isn't going to happen.
