Back to Wheeler, I do feel sorry for him, he's obviously on the edge of living the dream for his home town club and probably gets wind of these forums. And whilst it is amusing from a distance with the biscuit jokes, it must hurt the lad and it must come back to him every time he is injured.
Sitting in that changing room is a lonely place and all you can do it think of what has happened and what people have said in the past about you.
I've never had a problem with the lad and whilst I like Gaskell, I did not think Wheeler put a foot wrong last week and deserved his selection this week. If he was not going to make it I would rather it be on merit and someone forcing him out of the team. When it comes down to injury, questions will always be asked, whether we go the best out of him.
No doubt if we do offload him, he will come good and this will be another hindsight recruitment and retention decision to bash the club with. I hope it's not too long term and he gets the chance to put 10 games together. But if not yes he may be at the end.
Although as a side issue, you have to have a certain number of locally produced lads in your squad, (it's in the rules) most will never get regular 1st team action anyway. So having one with talent who gets occasional game is worth keeping over one with little talent and will not even get a game against Swinton in the CC.
So if his wages are not massive, I'd have no problem retaining him rather than just promoting an acadamy player who will never play, just to make up the numbers in the squad.
