Smith is a good coach, but has he converted warringtons dominant squad into pots? Not to the extent he should have. The grass isn't always greener, sometimes you are simply better with the devil you know.
Smith's been in charge for two full seasons and a near full season, in that time he's won 2 Challenge Cups and a minor premiership, that's a good return for Warrington seeing as we were a) crap and bottom of the league when he came, and b) have a good squad but it is by no means an all time great dominant squad.
It is not easy to monopolise trophies. Saints had a genuine great squad under Daniel Anderson, with guys like Cunningham, Scully, Lyon and a young Roby who are all time greats, and then guys like Pryce, Wellens, Long who are in the very goods. If you look at Warrington's squad how many would you say are genuine all time greats like those Saints players? Warrington have got
arguably the best squad, but its still arguable, whereas that Saints side was hands down peerlessly the best. But even there under Anderson, they only won one SL trophy, plus the Challenge Cups - it's not easy to monopolise the trophies in the salary cap era.
As for the Saints coach, jury is still out on Nathan Brown for me and I agree with the poster earlier that said he was like Martin O'Neill. If Nathan Brown went to St Helens it would be a bit like hearing Martin O'Neill is taking over Man United. You'd think...hmm....hard to make a really strong argument against, but still....hmmm
