the game seemed to change after wheeler was taken out with a late cheap shot, [ nothing new there then ] And Tomkin's still manages to cheat the penalties out of some dumb ar*e refs with his holding on con jobs, Add to that the blatant forward passes that seem to be the norm these days with these useless officials and its hard to beat a club like the goons, especially with half your squad out injured, having said all that the kids did a great job and Saints will bank their experience up for the next generation of winners. So dont get to cocky Goons your not that good by any stretch of your imagination!!!!!!!!!!!.

Saints can be rightly proud of how well they played considering the injuries you lot have sustained recently. But although Wigan had a more experienced squad, that was a poor Wigan performance for large parts of the game. Neither teams were at their best, Saints because they had players out, Wigan because they aren't playing to their potential at the moment.

Re: Graham's necessary bollocking : Sat Apr 23, 2011 8:05 pm
Far too much being made of Lomax's kick which Tomkins fielded and then ran down field. Sam T was out of position and Lomax too fatigued to beat him to the ball.
The real turning point was the team's or it's captain's decision to go for goal at 22-22.
Wigan were three yards off their own try line and out on their feet. Running it if not getting a try first time could very well have resulted in a repeat set.
As soon as Foster decided to go for goal I knew Wigan had a chance to win the game. Even at 22-24 there was always time.
The Leeds game showed that if Wigan are still in the game they will go for a try with seconds remaining.
Perhaps Graham's talk was to deflect from the mistake he made in taking the wrong option on the penalty with only six mins remaining.

They were a very long way behind at Leeds though, so they will have taken that approach. They weren't that far behind with us.

Don't agree with the comment about it being Grahams fault because we went for 2 points at 22-22.

The kick was poor by lomax but the was also many plays and missed tackles that followed the kick.

It was mistakes by the team and single player.

We can be bold enough to make a stand and do battle for our views and beliefs. But we must strive to be mature enough not to resort to unnecessary personal attacks upon people with opposing views.

Re: Graham's necessary bollocking : Sat Apr 23, 2011 9:05 pm
Fair enough we want to debate the game, but there are so many talking points, it's a bit harsh to lay blame all in the hands of one player or one moment.

There was far too many points where we can lay blame. There is more defence of the Hoffman error than there is of Lomax's error. For me the Hoffman error had a bigger over all impact. But there were still oppertunities and turning points.

Even after the Lomax error, there was still the shenton error and the scott moore error etc

As Saint fan said, it was a whole team game and a whole team that lost the game.

Don't be silly. There's not a captain in the land (or the NRL) that wouldn't have gone for goal with less than ten minutes left. Had we opted to run we could easily have turned the ball over on the next tackle giving the impetus to Wigan. And it's not like we have a specialist drop-goal kicker in the team, anyhow.

The Leeds game showed that if Wigan are still in the game they will go for a try with seconds remaining.

This is different to any other team? Are you seriously suggesting that down a score Cas or Warrington would just pack up shop and concede defeat?

Perhaps Graham's talk was to deflect from the mistake he made in taking the wrong option on the penalty with only six mins remaining.

Perhaps. Or perhaps it was to lay the blame on the arrangement of tea leaves in the half time brew.

I'm not sure when the penny will drop. Maybe today. Maybe never. But you cannot equate a try-scoring forward pass (which gives the defending team no chance) to a knock on that leads to six defensive tackles. Besides, it was a knock on. And if it wasn't Wigan would have been penalised (in front of the sticks) for Tomkins taking the ball in an off-side position.

So you're saying that, had that pass not been forward you would have been able to prevent the try? The fact is your defence was out of position and had been beaten so stop bleating. The officials missed a forward pass, just like the forward passes they missed from your team (and there were several of those).

And no, the penny will not drop, as you put it, because the distinction is all in your own mind. You got a set of six you never should have had (Tomkins came from behind the ball so that point is moot too) and scored off it. Both bad decisions resulted in tries that shouldn't have been. You consider the one is worse that the other because it was against your team. How do I know that? Because there isn't a single instance of you complaining against the decisions that went your way. Mind you, that's hardly a surprise.

Five yards further back and the defender has a greater chance of making the play. It's not like there were thirty yards of space to run into.

The distinction is perfectly valid and only a one-eyed fool would claim otherwise.

My pleasure.

Let's be honest. You've come here to have your vanity masturbated. Not content with the endless eulogizing on the Wigan board (where only one member that I've seen has had the stones to pipe up and claim you rolled a pair) you want to see it coming from Saints lips. Sorry. Saints were the better side for fifty minutes and only lost the game out of inexperience and poor refereeing. But, these things happen and I won't lose any sleep over it.
