Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill)

But that is what we HAVE been doing!

People have looked at the figures and seen young players. ( :FRUSRATED: ) But that is not what the figures are referring to. They are referring to home grown players and we have been leading the way since 2007.

Keiron Cunningham and Paul Wellens - ancient and have been at Saints forever - both home grown.
James Graham and James Roby - aged 24/25 - home grown
Paul Clough - aged 23/24 - home grown
Chris Dean and Scott Moore - aged 22/23 - home grown
Kyle Eastmond and Gary Wheeler - aged 21/22 - home grown
Jamie Foster and Jonny Lomax - aged 20 - home grown

(And there are more than those mentioned above, obviously, including the likes of Ian Hardman, Matty Smith and Ste Tyrer who have come and gone in those years as well as a number of other very young players who made their debuts during 2009/2010)

We've been doing exactly as you suggest for a few years now and we have not been replacing the older players who have been leaving with the same number of imports or older players. In fact, although we have bought three players in for 2011, we bought only one for each season of 2009 and 2010, while losing seven first team players during the same period.

Gardner and Wilkin were both signed as kids (19 I think), so like I said, it would depend if the criteria is two or three years prior to 21. I didn't count Maurie in there either ;)

Smith came through our Academy, what other definition of home grown do you want? And he replaced another home grown player in Eastmond.

I don't doubt that the figure is higher than it would be due to injuries, I just don't think it would be that much higher.

Btw, does this mean that you accept that we've had major injury problems this year? ;)

I know you didnt count Maurie but barring injury would he have not played more therefore took the place of an Home grown? Yes smith came through your system but again wouldnt have got a game normally.

Dont think Wilkin and Gardner count but if they do I think its abit of a dis service to Barrow and Hull KR to say St Helens produced them!

And ive never said you havent had injury problems :D

I didnt confuse home grown with young! But the figure is so high as you have played more youngsters due to injurys. Had Soliola played all season would foster/wheeler/ Lomax have played as many games?

I agree, but the rules is the rules ;). I think you may be right and they are federation trained anyway.

I think so, I don't think he'd have lasted at centre long and Foster and Lomax played mostly on the wing rather than at centre.
