Ian Thornley back from RU to Wigan, now confirmed. Although I am surprised it is with immediate effect, I assumed it was for next season.

No, signed immediately, Sale don't want him or rate him. (I have no idea if this is true, but it's the conclusion Rogues would jump to if Saints had signed a player in these circumstances). He's having a 'short holiday' to get something out of his system according to the paper today.

Kind of makes a mockery of their bleating about needing to change the rules to keep Tomkins though, doesn't it? I suppose it's good for the sport as he's one that the Wigan fans insisted was a guaranteed England international when he left for Union, but it makes the RFL look so stupid when Wigan pull tricks like this.

to be fair, this could all have been arranged for this season, so planned in this years cap all along.
Hopefully (for RL) he just didnt settle to RU as he was playing in their championship as he couldnt make the Sale team.
He could well be brilliant or he could well turn out to be another one like Karl Pryce who looked a world beater when he left, but was ruined when he came back

Interesting viewpoint bro. I wonder what the usual nuggets on their board would think of this considering most of them are subscribed to the ideology that there is a mass exodus of players from RL to RU.

I don't blame any club for signing the best players available to them, but it annoys me when a player comes straight back into RL after failing at RU as if nothing happened.

Promising players mulling over whether to make the switch to RU must find the decision all the more easier knowing that, if it doesn't work out, they're guaranteed a gig back in Super League.

I'm not suggesting for a minute that any RL club isn't perfectly entitled to sign failed RU converts, by the way. Just a general moan.

I blame the union communist cap for this defection of young talent to league.
